Contra Corrente

About
This group piece was probably the first and also the most expressive out of all my works. The song criticizes the dictatorship implanted in Brazil in the 60s. When this piece was created, the country was on the verge of a coup to its political system. At the same time, I was looking for an affirmation of my role as an artist on the national scene.
"Contra Corrente" (against the stream) featured six tap dancers in its first version and others joined later over the years, given the interest aroused in the local community. It has been performed in many events, including Floripa Tap (2016), Prêmio Desterro (2017), Dança em Cena (2017) in Florianópolis. The piece received several awards at festivals and was described by Daniel Borak as a “great dramaturgy piece, sounding and looking wonderful”, by Star Dixon as a “great choreography with a great performance” and by Melissa Tannús as a piece with “extraordinary energy and connection between the dancers”.
